Travel Tips

PACKING:

  • To prevent breaks or leakage from shampoos or lotions, put in plastic bags
  • Keep shoes in shape and save space-fill with socks
  • Use your destination address on your luggage tag. Helps get your bag to you if lost
  • Name on your passport and ticket much match
  • Address cards to send home before you leave. No need to pack address book
  • Place a dryer fabric softener sheet in your suitcase to keep clothes smelling fresh
  • Use a permanent marker to draw a shape or picture on your suitcase rather than ribbon for fast identification.

AIR TRAVEL:

  • Don’t book yourself on day’s last flight. If missed, you are stuck at the airport or hotel.
  • If flight gets cancelled, find a phone to call your travel agent or airline to get new reservation. Avoids the crowded airline counter
  • With a lot of extra time between flights, use an airlines executive lounge for a one time fee. Relax, work, enjoy free refreshments.
  • Get free airfare-try to get bumped.
  • If changing planes, obtain a map of the airport on the Internet
  • On long flights, get up and walk the aisles or some exercise to avoid a blood clot.
  • Chew gum on landings or takeoffs to reduce pressure in your ears.
  • Taking shoes off during flights helps with circulation
  • Use eye drops during flights as cabin air is dry
  • If visiting friends in a foreign country, ask them what a round trip ticket costs. Same ticket may be cheaper bought from destination.
  • Find out if the country you are visiting has a departure tax
  • Rule 240 refers to what an airline will do for you in the event of a flight delay or cancellation.

HOTELS:

  • If hotel is “fully” booked, call after 4pm when many hotels cancel reservations of unguaranteed reservations.
  • To avoid hotel chargers on phone credit cards, don’t hang up after each all. Use the pound sign key if making multiple calls.
  • Get the hotels business card. If you get lost, give this to a cab driver

MISC. TIPS:

  • Learn laws of country you will be visiting. I don’t know is not an excuse
  • Men-put a comb in the fold of your wallet. Have wallet opening to top of pocket with teeth of comb facing up. Difficult to remove wallet. Prevents pick pocketing
  • Women-If traveling with other women, decide who will bring blow dryer, curling iron, curlers, etc. and share. No need for all to bring the same items.
